Bude Breakwater Beach View The breakwater is quite impressive and quite large as well. The locals moor their small boats (mostly used for fishing) behind the breakwater. You can climb to the top of a platform on the breakwater and built into the rocks is St Thomas's Pit, a small swimming pool that was made as a mens bathing pool at a time when Bude had segregated bathing. You sometimes see rod fishermen fishing from the breakwater, catching the incoming tide at the right moment. Children delight in finding tiny fish and tiny baby crabs in the rocks just behind the breakwater, depending on the time of year. Just above the breakwater, on the cliffs, is a lifeguards tower. The breakwater is supposed to have been built with convict labour.
