Situated along the canal is the Marshes Nature Reserve with numerous wild bird species visiting such as herons, gargany duck etc. There is also Coarse fishing on the canal. Bude golf course, situated in the town. The main beach (Summerlease beach) has probably the largest open air free beach swimming pool in the country. The town has a large selection of individual and interesting shops; also restaurants and cafes. Within thirty minutes driving distance of our Bude cottages are many places of interest to visit. Of particular interest are Boscastle fishing village, Tintagel with 'King Arthur's Castle', the market town of Holsworthy, Launceston Castle, the picturesque Commbe Valley and Duckpool beach in the hamlet of Morwenstow and much more. Just outside of Bude
Just a couple of miles south of Bude are the lovely surfing beaches at Widemouth Bay, a large expanse of sandy beach backed by open countryside. Two beach cafes and a choice of country Inns and eating places . In a northward direction the beaches continue for nearly 2 miles, pretty much deserted, and accessible by cliff path or a long beach walk at low tide. A few miles north of Bude is National Trust Coombe Valley, the valley winding its way down to Duckpool beach. Further north is Hartland with Hartland Abbey (a privately owned, historic and impressive house and gardens open to the public-well worth a visit). Further up the coast again is the stepped picturesque village of Clovelly, once a thriving fishing village. You park at the top of the village where there are tea rooms and a visitors centre and walk down a hill into the village. Well worth a visit but visitors now have to pay a small charge at the visitors centre before entering the village.
